Misconceptions about upgrades
It seems like a lot of people get confused about upgrades, so let me try to clear some of them.
1. I heard there are problems upgrading one program.
This is not true, unless you are “upgrading” from a suite (like Design or Web) to a single point product. For example, you can upgrade from Photoshop CS to CS4 or Photoshop CS2 to Web Standard CS4 with no problems, but from a Suite to a single point product would be considered a downgrade, therefore it is not available.
2. I’m not going to be used the extended features Photoshot comes with, but the Suite I purchased comes with Photoshop Extended, is there a way I can not install just this portion?
No. The extended features get installed on your computer EVEN if your version of Photoshop is not extended. You don’t have access to it unless your serial number tells Photoshop to make them available to you. In a nut shell, the program size is the same with or without the extended portion.
3. I have a combination of old macromedia products and adobe products that is not bundled in a suite, what should I do?
Your best bet would be to find one of the suites that has the highest number of products you want, and then add the extra software a-la-carte.
4. Is there a Suite with Go Live?
No. Go Live is continuing its life as a separate product, but in the Suite it has been replaced with Dreamweaver.
5. How can I find out what can I upgrade to?

I hope this clears some of the confusion for you!
